The Borrego Village Association, as well as the community of Borrego Springs, greatly appreciates receiving from the San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization CECO a grant of $1,293.00 to purchases 10 pairs of hiking shoes for Borrego Springs High School Students enrolled in our Interpretation Course. The program, in partnership with the National Association for Interpretation, allows students to earn accreditation as certified Interpretive Hosts and Nature Guides. This professional level certification is recognized as a credential by California State Parks, the U.S. National Park Service, and internationally.

The hiking shoes allow our students, the majority of them from families of need, representative of our community of 3,000 residents that is recognized by the State of California as a severely disadvantaged community, to access the pristine nature of 1,000 square mile Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, to participate in nature-based internship activities led by the State Park and, hopefully, make experiencing the outdoors part of their lifelong, healthy, lifestyle.
